A cooperative is a company with mutual purpose under Civil Code arts. 2511 onward, registered in the companies register and the cooperative register. It may organize member housing, rental or services, but incorporation alone does not establish eligibility for a grant, social-housing designation or tax status. A housing cooperative (cooperativa edilizia/abitativa) is still an entity form; members may hold shares while the cooperative owns the property, or the statutes and transaction may provide a different tenure. Verify purpose, mutuality category, statutes, accounting, member admission and any scheme-specific registration. The cooperative entity may be project borrower/owner; a household member applying for a personal mortgage is a different applicant.
