Lottery proceeds distributed as grants to gemeinnützige Träger. Historically the one national grant that would pay towards building a Mehrgenerationenhaus — and the line that matters most to cohousing is suspended right now.

  • Bau is paused. The Stiftung’s own notice (fetched 2026-09-10): “Die Förderangebote ‘Bau’, ‘Erstausstattung’ sowie ‘Bau und Erstausstattung’ werden bis auf Weiteres ausgesetzt.” When live, Bau covered “Begegnungsstätten, ambulant betreute Wohngemeinschaften, Mehrgenerationenhäuser und neue Formen organisierten Wohnens” — an unusually explicit fit for communal housing. • What is open (project money, not bricks): Soziale Projekte, Digitalisierung, Quartiersentwicklung (20 % Eigenmittel each) and Soziale Innovationen (10 % Eigenmittel, plus a Kostenpauschale of max 5 %). All fund Personal-, Honorar- und Sachkosten for up to 3 years (Quartier extendable by 2).

Detail

  • Hard gates: the applicant must be a gemeinnützige Organisation with a Freistellungsbescheid and a Satzungszweck overlapping the Stiftung’s; a GbR, an eG or a Haus-GmbH cannot apply — an e.V. or gGmbH carrier can. gGmbH/gUG must show no single person or non-gemeinnützige body controls the Stammkapital; the Satzung must not grant a general §181 BGB exemption.

  • Subsidiarity: “Das Projekt darf nicht Aufgabe der öffentlichen Hand sein”, and the application must include a Stellungnahme der Kommune mit Negativbescheid on public money. No Strukturkosten (rent, admin). Eigenmittel must sit in the account as free cash at project start.

  • Dates (round after this one): Organisationsdaten by 10.12.2026, application window 02.11.–17.12.2026, decision May 2027, earliest start 01.06.2027. One application per Trägerorganisation per year. A Wirtschaftsprüfung at the project’s own cost is required to sign off the Verwendungsnachweis.

  • Open question (not a fact): the Stiftung publishes no maximum grant amount per project on these pages.
