Germany’s largest private social funder — over €5 bn distributed since founding, up to 1,000 projects a month. For a cohousing group it is a carrier-level grant source, never a building loan.
- Who may apply: “gemeinnützige Organisationen mit Sitz in Deutschland”. So an e.V. or gGmbH carrier, not a GbR, a normal eG or a Haus-GmbH. Target groups: people with disabilities, children and young people, people in particular social difficulty.
- Money: “Je nach Art und Größe deines Vorhabens bezuschussen wir dein Projekt mit bis zu 300.000 Euro. Kleinere Projekte ganz ohne Eigenmittel.”
- Wohnen line — not yet open. Aktion Mensch runs a focus area Inklusives Wohnen und Bauen, but its own page says: “Neue Fördermöglichkeiten im Bereich Wohnen erwarten dich in 2027.” An inclusive housing project should plan around this from 2027, not now.

- Open today: Sport und Kultur vor Ort (inklusiver Sozialraum), Junge Menschen, Anschubförderung Inklusionsunternehmen und Zuverdienstbetriebe, and a year-round Pauschalförderung for Ferien/Bildung.
- Cycles: three application phases a year, six weeks each. Current phase 01.09.–15.10.2026, decision 26.02.2027; next phases start 01.01.2027 and 01.05.2027 (Kuratorium 30.06.2027 and 29.10.2027). Everything runs through the DIAS system, with a Verband or an Aktion-Mensch adviser supporting the applicant.
- Practical read for a group: the fundable object is the inclusion work — an Inklusionsbetrieb in the ground floor, an accessible Begegnungsangebot, a personenzentriertes support service — plus, from 2027, possibly the barrier-free building itself.
