Baden-Württemberg’s model-project track for new ways of making housing affordable. The state “sponsors” (Patenschaft) exemplary, transferable pioneer projects and funds them individually; 13 projects across four Fördertranchen were in the pool when the ministry answered Landtag-Drucksache 17/10236 on 4 March 2026. This is the closest thing Baden-Württemberg has to a Modellvorhaben line for gemeinschaftliches Wohnen, and cooperative and community projects are plainly represented in it.

Individually negotiated grants, spanning three orders of magnitude. Examples the ministry lists:

  • Gründung der Dachgenossenschaft Wohnen Tübingen — €1.4 million, running 24.07.2020 to 31.12.2028. An umbrella co-op designed so single house projects do not each have to found and audit their own eG.
  • Genossenschaftliche Wege der Quartiersentwicklung, Alter Schlachthof Pforzheim — €1.5 million, 14.12.2022 to 30.06.2026.
  • Blaupause kirchliche Immobilien — klosternah gemeinschaftlich wohnen und sinnstiftend leben, Bad Waldsee — €720,000, 01.05.2021 to 30.06.2028: church property converted to community living.
  • Neustart Tübingen — €823,000 (15.09.2024 to 30.06.2026); Alternatives Wohnen im Tobias-Mayer-Quartier, Esslingen — €1 million (to 31.12.2027); smaller ones from €37,000 (Bodnegg) and €79,000 (Trafoturm conversion, Ludwigsburg) upward.

What this means for a group: the money is real and large, but it is awarded to a transferable pioneering concept, not to housing as such. The applicant is normally the project carrier — municipality, co-op, church body or company — and the deliverable includes making the model reusable by others.

Open question (not a fact): the ministry describes the pool and the four tranches but publishes no open call, no application route and no deadline in this answer, and no live programme page was reachable at mlw.baden-wuerttemberg.de on 2026-09-10. Whether a fifth tranche is open must be asked of the Ministerium für Landesentwicklung und Wohnen directly.
