Do not plan a capital stack around Triodos in Germany. Triodos Bank N.V. has decided to wind down its German business.
- The bank’s own front page (fetched 2026-09-10) states: “Triodos Bank N.V. schließt ihre Niederlassung in Deutschland … Daher nehmen wir keine Neukund:innen mehr an.” New-customer business, and therefore new project lending, is closed.
- Existing customers are being walked through the wind-down; Triodos has published a press release saying it “kooperiert mit der UmweltBank AG, um Kund:innen eine nachhaltige Alternative … aufzuzeigen”. The successor route for a German group is therefore umweltbank-financing or gls-bank-financing.
- Triodos remains active in NL/BE/ES/UK, so a cross-border note may still be worth writing for those jurisdictions — but not for a German borrower.
- Open question (not a fact): the final date on which German loan contracts are transferred or terminated is not stated on the public pages; existing borrowers should read the dedicated FAQ page linked from triodos.de.
